A director asked: How long should a game slot be?
For soccer, the slot is the playing time plus 5 minutes for halftime plus a changeover between games (5 minutes unless you want more). Two halves of 30 minutes is a 70 minute slot; two halves of 25 is 60. Leaving halftime out is the most common mistake: every game that overruns its slot pushes the rest of that field’s day back. For every other sport, the slot is the game’s own length; for hockey, include warm-up and the resurface, since the ice is booked for the whole slot, and for baseball and softball, the time limit plus the changeover.
